Finishing
After completing both socks and closing both heels, weave in all yarn ends securely using a tapestry needle, taking care to hide ends along the inside of the rib or within the esc fabric. Wash socks gently in cool water with wool wash and lay flat to block to finished measurements. Gently stretch the ribbed cuff lengthwise and the foot tube widthwise to even out stitches. Allow to dry fully before wearing. Check that the heel seam is smooth and the waste-yarn holes are fully closed.
Notes
Sizing: For a larger foot circumference (9 in), begin with 8 esc in the magic ring and increase to 54 sts total across the toe section by adding one additional increase round. For a smaller foot (7 in circumference), begin with 6 esc and stop increasing at 42 sts. Adjust foot length by adding or removing plain esc rounds in the Foot section before the heel placement round. The waste yarn heel placement round should always fall approximately 2.5 in before the end of the desired foot length. Crochet fabric is denser and less elastic than knit fabric, so always try the sock on as you go and ensure you have at least 1 in of negative ease in foot circumference for a snug fit. Extended single crochet is recommended over plain single crochet as it produces a taller, more flexible stitch that better mimics knit fabric. When picking up heel stitches, use the tip of your hook to gently tease out the waste yarn one stitch at a time to avoid dropping live stitches. If you find the heel gap is too large after closing, use the cast-on tail to seam any remaining hole at the corners.
