Finishing

Cut yarn leaving a 12-in tail. Graft the remaining 16 sts closed using Kitchener stitch: hold sole and instep sts parallel on two needles (8 sts each), thread tail onto a tapestry needle, and work Kitchener stitch to join seamlessly. Pull the grafted tail to the inside of the sock and weave in all ends securely. Block socks by soaking in cool water, gently squeezing out excess moisture, and laying flat or placing on sock blockers to dry. Make a second sock to match.

Notes

Leg and foot length are fully adjustable: work more or fewer rounds in the Leg and Foot sections to fit your measurements. At the gauge of 32 sts = 4 in, 60 sts gives a circumference of approximately 7.5 in unstretched, which fits comfortably on a foot of 8–9 in circumference due to the natural stretch of knit fabric. To size up for a wider foot, CO 64 sts and adjust all stitch counts proportionally (heel flap over 32 sts, instep 32 sts). The two twisted-rib rounds at the cuff edge prevent rolling and add a decorative detail without extra bulk. When picking up gusset stitches, pick up 1 stitch per slipped edge stitch to keep the gusset tight; if small holes appear at the gusset corners, pick up an extra stitch at each corner and k2tog it with its neighbor on the first gusset decrease round. Try the sock on after completing the gusset decreases to verify foot length before working the toe.
