Chunky Twisted Rib Beanie

A fast, cozy bulky-weight beanie worked in twisted 2×2 rib from the brim to the crown, knit in the round with a simple gathered finish.

Cut yarn leaving a 10 in tail. Thread tail onto tapestry needle and draw through all 13 remaining sts, slipping them off the knitting needle as you go. Pull snugly to close the crown opening. Pass the tail to the inside of the hat and weave in securely. Weave in the cast-on tail on the inside as well. Block lightly by dampening and patting into shape if desired.

Notes

The twisted 2×2 rib (k tbl, p tbl repeated) creates a dense, stretchy fabric that provides excellent stretch and recovery — the hat fits a range of adult head sizes from approximately 20–23 in circumference. If your head is larger, CO 56 sts (a multiple of 4) and adjust crown decreases accordingly. Switch from the circular needle to DPNs when fewer than about 32 sts remain on the needles, or when the work becomes too tight to knit comfortably. Try the hat on periodically during the body section; if you prefer a shorter hat, begin crown decreases after Rnd 28. Use a stretchy long-tail cast on for maximum ease at the brim.
